Professional Gas Cooker Repair Across Dubai
Dubai's kitchens run predominantly on gas. From the compact 4-burner Bompani in a JLT apartment to the 90cm Bertazzoni range in a Palm Jumeirah villa, gas cookers and gas cooking ranges are the workhorse of UAE home cooking. When a gas appliance develops a fault, the repair must be done correctly — not just for convenience, but for safety. Gas appliances involve pressurised flammable gas, precision safety valves, and ignition systems that must work in exact sequence. A repair carried out incorrectly is a gas leak waiting to happen.
Our technicians are trained specifically in gas appliance repair, carrying the equipment needed to test for gas leaks after any repair that involves the gas supply. Every gas cooker repair we carry out is followed by a full gas leak check before the appliance is returned to use — a standard that not all repair services in Dubai apply.
Common Gas Cooker Faults We Fix in Dubai
Burner ignition failure
The most frequent gas cooker repair call in Dubai. Ignition failure has a clear hierarchy of causes. First: a dirty igniter. The igniter tip sits beside the burner and must make a precise spark at a precise gap. Food residue, grease, and cleaning liquid all displace that gap over time. A thorough igniter clean resolves ignition failure in the majority of cases. Second: a cracked or worn igniter electrode. The ceramic body of the igniter can crack from repeated heating and cooling, causing the spark to misfire. Third: a faulty ignition switch — the component inside the knob that triggers the spark when the knob is pushed in. Fourth (least common): a failed ignition control board that manages spark timing for all burners.
Thermocouple failure — flame won't stay lit
If your gas burner lights but extinguishes the moment you release the knob, the thermocouple — also called the flame failure device or FFD — has failed. The thermocouple is a safety device: it detects the heat of the burning flame and sends a signal to hold the gas valve open. When it fails, the valve closes on release. Thermocouple replacement is one of the quickest and most cost-effective gas cooker repairs. In our experience, thermocouples on Dubai gas cookers need replacing every 3–5 years under normal use, faster if the cooker is used heavily.
Gas oven not lighting or not heating
Gas oven ignition is more complex than burner ignition. The oven burner is concealed at the base of the oven cavity and uses a separate igniter and thermocouple from the hob burners. If the oven burner won't light, the sequence of checks is: igniter spark (visible or audible?), thermocouple condition, gas oven safety valve function, and oven burner condition. A gas oven that lights but doesn't reach temperature has a thermostat fault or a heat distribution issue.
Uneven or weak gas flame
A flame that varies in height around the burner ring, goes out on some segments but not others, or is noticeably weaker than it used to be has a blocked burner port. In Dubai kitchens where cooking is frequent and ingredients include fine spices, rice, and sauces, burner port blockage is common. Remove the burner cap and clean the ports with a thin wire or toothpick — never a wooden cocktail stick, which can break off inside the port. If cleaning doesn't restore even flame, the burner itself may need replacement.
Gas valve fault
The gas valve controls gas flow to each burner through a valve stem connected to the control knob. Valve faults cause: gas that continues to flow after turning off (dangerous — turn off the main gas valve immediately), gas flow that cannot be reduced below a high level, or no gas flow regardless of knob position. Gas valve replacement is a medium-complexity repair that involves disconnecting the gas supply and requires post-repair leak testing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gas Cooker Repair Dubai
How do I know if my gas cooker has a leak?
The clearest sign of a gas leak is the smell of gas — described as a rotten egg or sulphurous odour (added to natural gas as a safety measure). You may also hear a faint hissing from the cooker body when all burners are off. If you suspect a gas leak, do not operate any electrical switches, do not light any flame, turn off the gas supply valve, open windows, and call us from outside the building.
Why does my gas cooker flame go out in wind?
A flame that extinguishes in a draft has a thermocouple that is not positioned correctly relative to the flame, or a thermocouple that has weakened with age. The thermocouple needs to be heated by the flame to hold the valve open — if it is slightly mispositioned or degraded, any reduction in flame temperature (such as from a draft) causes it to signal the valve to close.
My gas burner is clicking but not lighting — what is wrong?
Clicking without lighting is the most common pattern in igniter fault calls. It means the igniter is generating a spark but either: the spark gap is too wide (dirty or damaged igniter), the burner ports are blocked so gas cannot reach the spark, or the spark is not reaching the correct position. Clean the igniter and burner thoroughly. If clicking continues without lighting after cleaning, the igniter electrode needs replacement.
Is it worth repairing an old gas cooker?
Most gas cooker components — igniters, thermocouples, valves, thermostats — are standardised parts available for machines 10–15 years old. Gas cookers have fewer electronic components than modern electric ranges or induction hobs, making them generally more repairable and cost-effective to repair. We will always give you an honest assessment of whether a repair is economically sensible versus replacement.
